So for January I have gone gluten free, in addition to clearing many other things from my diet. I don’t go heavy on wheat products in general so this was not a major thing except for…. soy sauce. The gluten-free soy sauce that my sushi delivery place sends is downright awful. Unpalatable for me.
Enter Thrive Market – I signed up for this online health foods store ages ago but never placed an order. Right before New Year’s Thrive sent an offer for a free bottle of coconut aminos with my first order. What are coconut aminos? Well, they are the soy-free, gluten-free answer to soy sauce. Considering I was also planning on a reduction in soy as well, this actually sounded like a fantastic seasoning sauce to add to my repertoire. So, I bought it, in addition to other Thrive Market goodies.
I’ve now used it as a soy sauce replacement twice with sushi. I give this product a resounding YES. It is completely delicious. It gave my sushi an amazing flavor profile and I am pretty sure that I like it better than traditional soy sauce. Bonus, since it is much healthier for you. No gluten, no soy, and a drastic reduction in sodium intake. It’s a little bit sweet, but that was what I liked most about it. A celiac-suffering friend of mine told me she uses coconut aminos all the time in her cooking. I think it’s time I did as well! Stay tuned for some yozenity recipes featuring coconut aminos in the future!!!
